Full City oil disaster - photo gallery

One week after the Cosco-operated bulk carrier ship "Full City" hit the rocky shore of the Norwegian South Coast, the full picture of the oil spill is emerging. Shoreline oil pollution is observed from the south tip of Norway to Larvikfjorden near Oslo in the east. Friends of the Earth Norway has critized the oil recovery operation. For not being able to spot and recover the smaller patches of oil drifting into the inner archipelago where biological effect will be most severe. See eyewitness-photos of the spill.

National educational project SPARE in Belarus launched

In a unique partnership project Norges Naturvernforbund contribute to unite governmental and non-governmental organisations in a makeover for environmental education in Belarus. 26th of March SPARE was launched as a national project on energy and climate education in Belarus.

Norges Naturvernforbund assists war torn school in Georgia

Pupils from school number 7 in Gori.


Norges Naturvernforbund has together with local partner EcoVision rebuilt the minor wing of school number 7 in Gori, Georgia. All the windows were blown out when a bomb hit nearby the school during the war actions in August. 1500 pupils have since the war had to attend education in regional schools.

Sustainable Energy Solutions in East Africa



Norges Naturvernforbund has in cooperation with local organizations in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania written a report focusing on the necessary framework for small-scale sustainable energy projects to succeed. For each of the three countries the country’s energy situation is presented, together with country-specific experiences and recommendations. On this basis more general experiences and recommendations are extracted.

24 hours of sunshine in Mozambique

In Maringue district in central Mozambique people can now see the effects of using solar energy for lighting their homes. Through a project supported by Norges Naturvernforbund has more than 80 families within short time purchased a solar panel system. The costs of the solar panels can be paid back over some few months with the money saved for lamp oil and radio batteries. In addition a considerable health gain is achieved when the indoor air is not polluted by the lamp fume.

Improved NGO efforts on climate negotiations in Russia and Belarus



Norges Naturvernforbund has during 2008 had particular focus on strengthening of NGOs climate work in Belarus and Russia. In Russia, the reorganized umbrella organisation Russian Socio-Ecological Union (RSEU) has developed policy and inputs to the Russian position in the international climate negotiations in Poznan. They are now present in Poznan, and work actively towards their delegation.

The Norwegian Minister for Environment and Development told today environmentalists from Brazil and Nepal that he is on the restrictive side when it comes to new licenses for oil extraction in Norway. Mr. Solheim participated in an electronic meeting on Norwegian climate policy arranged by Norges Naturvernforbund, Norwegian Rainforest Foundation and Future in Our Hands.
