Sted: Sotra

25. - 26. APRIL 2018: The Plastic Whale Heritage invites you to spend two unforgettable days with us here in Sotra outside of Bergen. We will carry out a large plastic cleanup and hold a conference focusing on what we can do to solve the challenges that we face.

The Plastic Whale Heritage

The image is showing plastic that was found inside a whale's stomach, found outside Sotra in 2017. It is exhibited at the University Museum of Bergen, Haakon Sheteligsplass 10, Bergen. Plastic pollution is the theme in the exhibition called "Plasthvalen". We highly recommend it. http://www.uib.no/universitetsmuseet.

Background
On a cold winter’s day in 2017, a dying Cuvier's beaked whale stranded in Sotra, just outside Bergen. The whale's stomach was so full of plastic bags which it had mistaken for food that it could no longer eat and was unable to survive. Pictures of the dead whale, and the plastic bags that killed it, spread around the world and opened everyone’s eyes to the state of our oceans. The "Plastic Whale" did not die in vain though, it has inspired thousands to move to action. More people than ever before have started to remove plastic from the Norwegian coastline.

About
Following the whale's death, more than 30 organizations have joined forces against marine pollution and established a group called "The Plastic Whale Heritage". The Cuvier's beaked whale's legacy will not be forgotten, instead it will lead people to action and bring about change towards a future where no more whales, birds or other wildlife will die because of humans' trash. Naturvernforbundet seier ja til flaumsikring utan kraftverk i Odda

Alle er einige om at flaumsikring er naudsynt - men ikkje at flaumsikring skal betalast med kraftutbygging i våre siste, urørte verna vassdrag.
