Representatives of several organizations active in SPARE are present in Copenhagen. The main task of the organizations is to influence on their national delegations policies and positions in the negotiations, and to bring information back to their home countries on the negotiations.
9th of December SPARE also facilitated a side event at the side conference Klimaforum'09 in the centre of Copenhagen. Around 30 participants listened to presentations on how education on climate and energy can increase awareness and decrease emissions.
Presentations were given from Russia by Olga Senova, Friends of Baltic, Belarus by Irina Semko from Sakharov International Environmental University, Kyrgyzstan by Vladimir Korotenko from BIOM, and Togo by Sena Aloukha from Young Volunteers for the Environment, Togo
All of them could tell about a great need in the educational sector for improved education in the sphere or energy and climate, and that training of teachers is an important activity that gives good results.
The importance of the three step approach of SPARE – to learn, to do practical measures and to tell parents and local society of the importance of energy saving measures was also stressed in the presentations.
SPARE is also present at two exhibitions – one at Klimaforum 09, and one at Bella center.
