Cooperating to protect Šumava National Park
Naturvernforbundet has initiated a new project together with our partner Hnutí DUHA- Friends of the Earth of the Czech Republicin. The goal of the project is to strengthen public participation in the work to protect Šumava National Park.
Hnutí DUHA- Friends of the Earth of the Czech Republic, is working to strengthen participation of NGOs and the public in decision-making concerning environmental protection of Šumava National Park, the largest protected area in the Czech Republic. Forces are trying to weaken the legislation ensuring the nature protection in the National park. Šumava National Park (NPS) is an area of high conservation importance, which is reflected in several international conventions. Discussion about future direction of NPS runs in the Czech Republic. The question is what will be the priority; nature protection or economic interests? The project aims are to engage the public in this discussion and to inform MPs about facts related to National park Šumava. Naturvernforbundet is participating in the project by sharing know-how, linking Norway and Czech NGO’s. Naturvernforbundet aim to pass on our knowledge about advocacy and media work, public mobilization and networking to Hnutí DUHA.
The project „Strengthening democratic decision making concerning Sumava National Park“ is supported by a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants. www.eeagrants.org
